The Road to Samarkand - 18 Sep 11

Jadu played at Sharq Taronalari International Music Festival in August 2011. They performed in Registan Square, surely the most beautiful site for a Festival, the towering walls of the three madrassahs decorated with intricate mosaics, the excellent light projections swirling and pulsing, creating rainbows of colour, the sheer magnificence of this ancient setting. Their music was very well received, they played SOHINI, and some of the audience commented later,  'It should be called Caravanserai, I saw camels crossing the desert as they played.' 'No no, it should be Maha Ganga, there were elephants!'

Jadu also played concerts at two regional venues, along with musicians from Afghanistan, Ukraine, Senegal, and Ireland. There were wonderful jamming sessions on the hotel terrace every night, often continuing until dawn. On our first night in Samarkand we met Maria Pomianowska, the Artistic Director of the Warsaw Cross Cultural Festval. Maria is an amazing and very talented woman, she studied Sarangi in India, and has pioneered the reconstruction of medieval Polish instruments. We met her at dinner and within an hour she was playing with JADU on the hotel terrace. Then the Georgian choir ( six very macho guys with great voices and nimble feet) delighted us all with an accapella song. The night culminated with a tiny Israeli woman playing powerful drum, and the Uzbeki dancing girls showing us their (very cool)moves.

Jadu have been invited to play in India and Afghanistan in 2012. Michal Shapiro has produced a brilliant video of JADU and written about them on her blog on www.linktv.org/worldmusic/blog . See the link to the video on YOUTUBE below

Jadu invited to perform at Sharq Taronalari, Melodies of the Orient, International Music Festival in Samarkand - 05 Jul 11

Jadu will be joining musicians from over 60 countries performing at the 8th International Music Festival in Samarkand, Uzbekistan from August 25th to 30th 2011. This festival, which is sponsored by UNESCO, is held in the stunning location of Registan Square, a world heritage site with  three blue and white tiled madrasals set against a desert backdrop. The festival is performed in the palace gateway. One of the additional bonuses of the festival is the opportunity to jam with musicians from so many countries. One of the festival aims is to further international creative ties and to strengthen cultral-spiritual cooperation.

The new album, 'Aberaeron Sunset' is attracting a lot of attention and has been played on several radio stations. It will soon be available on Amazon aand other international outlets, as well as via this web site.

Magick Carpet change their name to JADU - 11 Mar 11

On March 10th Magick Carpet played their last gig at Burnett's Hill Chapel in Pembroke, the 'Chapel that Rocks'. From today, March 11th, Magick Carpet have changed their name to JADU. Their first gig as JADU is at the Mulberry Bush Cafe, Lampeter, on Friday 18th March. 2011 promises to be a very eventful year for JADU. Already they have recorded their second CD, Aberaeron Sunset, at Taith studios with the very talented Dylan Fowler, (due to be released in May 2011), made a video at LLanelli college, which is a project for the media students and will be available on You Tube soon,  and had their music on the soundtrack of a documentary about India. Please visit http://indianfloweng.blogspot.com to watch a clip!

The new web site, www.jadumusic.co.uk is being created and this site will move over within the next few weeks. The music goes from strength to strength.

Winter 2010 to Spring 2011 - 07 Dec 10

Magick Carpet have gone from strength to strength this year. The music is maturing and reaching new heights. Rajesh's voice and Pete's sax or flute seem to dance around one another, while Paul and Smudger create a fluid musical foundation for Kelly's ecstatic tabla playing to fly from. Their music is a painting of sound, multilayered and intensely exhilarating. The Autumn gigs at the Mulberry Bush, Castle Cafe and Waunifor left their audiences spellbound and longing for more. They are planning to record their first full length CD in January 2011, and hope it will be available by March. Forthcoming gigs are Cellan Millennium Hall on the 8th January, and Burnett's Hill Chapel in Creswell Quay, Pembrokeshire, on Thursday 10th March. More gigs in the pipeline. Watch this space! Best wishes to all for a happy festive season and a peaceful and musical 2011.

Latest News - 08 May 10

April was a really good month for Magick Carpet. They played a brilliant gig at Cellan Millennium Hall  'Aberaeron Sunset', a compostion inspired by Rajesh's experience of a beautiful sunset at Aberaeron, when the sun sank like a red ball into the sea, creating a pathway of shimmering light which appeared to connect directly to him and reminded him of sunsets in Bombay, painted a musical picture which enchanted the audience. Two new compositions were also included in the concert.  Some very exciting music is being created by these guys, they are in a class of their own.

A friend of Kelly's, Steve, videod the concert and has put three clips onto Youtube, this can be accessed via the MagickCarpet page on facebook.

Coming up next is a gig at Waunifor, Maesycrugiau, on Saturday 5th June. See Events page for more details and directions. In August (27th) they'll be appearing at The Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff.
